This term is very busy already with all the different projects that we are involved in. Firstly we have been looking at the UN Rights of the Child in order to create our own class charter. This work has been continued in our Refugee project.
We have been looking at the lives of children who are Refugees through film and poetry. We have created our own poems to respond to what we have found out and we are in the process of turning these into poetry performance on I-movies. So far the standard of poems produced is outstanding and we look forward to sharing them with you using our QR codes!
As in P5 we will be continuing to work with BBC Terrific Scientific throughout P6. Our first investigation will be into taste and whether we are non-tasters or supertasters. Maybe you could try this out at home too as it might let you understand why some of us are more picky eaters than other?
Later in the term we will be looking at plastics, light and motion and we are very excited to see what we find out.
Our major project leading up to Christmas is called the “School Mock Court Competition”. We have been lucky to gain two places for both Primary 6 classes. During this project pupils will take on the roles of lawyers-pursuing and defending a case which we will argue in Glasgow High Court presided over by real life judges. Having taken part previously this is an amazing opportunity for pupils to bring to life many skills that will help them in the future. We will be working very closely with the two lawyers assigned to our school who will advise us through the legal process. We will be looking for help with many aspects of this competition so look out for the letter!
Each month this year we are focusing on Pope Francis’ Special Intentions as well as our own. For August he asks that we “Treasure our Families” and we have been looking at how our families are treasure in our lives. Why not ask you son/daughter what they thought? Pope Francis’ September’s special intention is that we pray for the Youth of Africa, that they have access to education and work in their own countries. Maybe during your family prayer time you could remember these intentions too?
