Primary 1 have settled into primary school life extremely well. Well done everyone and a special thanks to the Primary 7 buddies.
This term, Primary 1 are busy learning their new sounds and common words, using active games, songs, actions and magnetic boards. We are focusing on forming our letters correctly.
In numeracy, we will be learning all about recognising, ordering and counting numbers to 10 and beyond. We have been learning about the days of the week and will progress onto the months of the year. We have all measured our height and used mathematical language such as tall, short, taller and shorter. We have been finding shapes within our classroom environment and talking about their properties.
This term, we are all getting to know each other better by discussing our own special gifts and talents and showing an understanding that everyone is unique. We will invite important members of our school community into our class to learn more about their role in St. Matthews.
We will continue to experience all of our learning through a play approach.
This term we invited our families to join us for our very first lunch in Wilma’s Wonderful Diner. It was a huge success and we all enjoyed our grub!
Parents have the opportunity to Meet the Teacher at the Introductory Parent’s Evening on Wednesday 5th September.
Primary 1 will join the whole school in celebrating First Friday Mass in St. Matthew’s Church. We have been learning our Sign of the Cross in preparation.
Maths Week begins on 10th September and we will be visiting The Hub cafe, Bishopbriggs to develop numeracy and social skills. We invite all of our family and friends to visit the cafe on our trip day (date to follow) so we can serve you delicious cakes and make our trip even more enjoyable!!
